Does your kid love cocktails?!
So, my 8yr old son loves margaritas! True story. How this happened was a complete accident, but now here we are with a booze-loving 2nd grader who loves to announce how delicious margaritas are at the most uncomfortable times…like the first time I met the mom of a new friend to arrange a playdate at our house.
I promise I won’t serve your kid cocktails during a playdate!
Hi, it’s Deanna, co-founder & formulator of Meraki Mama Botanicals. It all started when he and I met some friends for tacos. The adults all had margaritas and after a bit, my son asked for a watermelon juice. I handed him what I thought was a delicious-looking glass of sweet red watermelon juice, garnished with a lime – nonalcoholic of course. But, he took a sip and got a funny look on his face, and said, “Mama, I think this is a margarita and it’s really good!”
Cut to me wrestling the drink from his hands and explaining that even though it may have been delicious, it is not for kids!!!
So now he loves to know what’s in my glass. He’s all about the “fancy” drinks and spritzers. Obviously, I don’t put booze in his drinks, but I commonly add things like Vit D drops, powdered Vit C, Elderberry syrup, and other herbal blends. I totally get his desire for something exciting and refreshing and…
I want to take advantage of the opportunity to make things as healthy as possible.
It’s probably why I seem to be addicted to a variety of bubbly beverages like Topo Chico, Perrier, La Croix and Waterloo. Even better when you add a squeeze of fresh citrus or some freshly juiced ginger and turmeric root or a dash of some botanical bitters.
Lately, the Meraki Mama team has been alllllll about making mocktails and cocktails with our Zen supplements!
We dabbled in this for a bit when the company launched, but several months ago while visiting spas and resorts in Park City, UT to set up partnerships with Meraki Mama, things got crazy! We got the resort restaurant manager and some staff involved in the mad creations and ended up in discussions with a restaurant out in California about featuring Zen cocktails on the summer menu…but that’s another story!
Try a Meraki Martini, Zen Margarita or add a dash of Zen to your Mimosa. Or, add some Zen, fresh fruit, and a splash of juice to your favorite bubbly water for a refreshing, alcohol-free afternoon spritzer.
I made a spritzer today and hadn’t finished mixing before you-know-who was asking if I was making it for him!
Here’s the recipe:
- ½ mandarin orange orange
- 1 large slice of lemon
- 1 serving of Zen (CBD+CBG or Amino Acid)
- Topo Chico – you can use other carbonated mineral water but I am obsessed with Topo’s strong carbonation and mineral flavor!
Here’s how to make it:
- Squeeze orange and lemon into a small glass – I like using the rounded ½ pint mason jars
- Add a full serving of Zen (6 pumps) into the glass and swirl until mixed
- Pour in Topo Chico.
- Garnish with a slice of lemon or orange and maybe even a sprig of rosemary if you’re feeling extra fancy.
I was a bit grumpy and my energy was dragging but after this Zen spritzer, I was feeling super refreshed!
I highly recommend giving this a try the next time you need a refresher. And if you need something stronger in the evening, we won’t judge if you add a shot of booze into the mix 🙂
